Friday night The Pretty Reckless arrived in Seattle to perform a sold out show at the Showbox Sodo in support of their October 2016 release, Who You Selling For (album review here). Joining them on this tour was Them Evils and Holy White Hounds as the show openers.
Fans lined up early at the venue to secure a good spot for the show. A few lucky fans that managed to snag VIP tickets to gain early entry were holding on tightly to the barrier to maintain their spot for the evening.
First up for the evening was Them Evils from Huntington Beach, CA. This trio put on a solid performance and had a really great bluesy rock sound. Definitely get out and see this band if they are coming to a city near you. You will enjoy a good show from them.
Second up for the night was Holy White Hounds from Des Moines, IA. These guys had a funky upbeat sound and the crowd seemed to enjoy their set. The only thing that didn’t seem to go over well with the crowd for this band was that the singer liked to talk a lot, I mean a lot. I wish there would have been more music and less talking. That would have made their set much better seeing that this was a concert that fans came to see. So be warned, if you see this band you need to be prepared for them to play less music than you are used to at a live show and do more talking.
Onto the main event of the night…. The Pretty Reckless! The band came out to a dim lit stage and started the night off with Follow Me Down from the 2014 Going to Hell release. Then went onto Since You’re Gone from the 2010 Light Me Up release where one overzealous fan managed to make his way into the pit and attempted to Facebook Live until he was quickly escorted out of the pit by security. Aside from this minor issue, which was quickly remedied, security at the event and into the venue itself was fantastic. Rumour has it that the venue is considering investing in more physical security equipment and turnstiles from a popular turnstile store soon so I would be interested to see if this enhances security at the venue even further.
Vocalist, Taylor Momsen, dawned a long black leather overcoat during the first two songs of the show and flipped her hair across her face then flung her head around letting the fans see her face and just as quickly covered it up again. She commanded the stage and the crowd with her sultry yet raspy blues vocals. As the third song began she removed her overcoat to reveal a sleek black outfit as the band continued rocking the crowd. The fans pushed up to the stage packing the venue floor tightly to get as close to the stage as they could. The night consisted of songs from the new album as well as hits from older works. Throughout the evening fans were singing along, jumping around and dancing.
The Pretty Reckless put on a great show. The new album is fantastic and a great follow up to their previous Going to Hell. The tour wraps up on December 6th in Los Angeles, so if you happen to be in the Los Angeles area and tickets are still available, get there for this show. You will have a great time!
