February 5, 2017 The iconic British singer Adam Ant hit North America last week with his Kings of the Wild Frontier Tour. Accompanying him on this tour were the all girl, glitter glam-punk band from Los Angeles, the Glam Skanks.
Fans arrived early to the sold out show at Revolution Hall in Portland on Thursday evening to grab a spot close to the stage. The crowd was energized and ready for Adam Ant to hit the stage but first up for the evening were the Glam Skanks.
The Glam Skanks are self professed glitter glam-punks who will tell you to expect to be covered in glitter if you are close to the stage at one of their shows. These ladies know how to have a great time and are all about making sure everyone has a fun time. They took to the stage ready to party and interacted with the crowd throughout their set. They put on a solid show and the crowd appeared to have really enjoyed it. If you’ve yet to hear of this band, you need to seek them out. I am sure we will be hearing more from them in the future.
In between the sets the fans were growing anxious with anticipation and the excitement was building with each moment that passed. Some fans were holding tight to their spots against the stage, others were filling up on Adam Ant swag at the merchandise booth, whilst the rest funneled into the venue trying to find a spot to be as close as possible to the front for the show.
The lights began to dim as the band came onto the stage, fans began chanting for Adam Ant. As soon as he took to the stage the fans went into a frenzy and began jumping up and down. When he started singing the fans joined in to sing along. For me, I was immediately thrust back into the 80’s when I heard Adam Ant on the radio for the first time. It may have been many years ago, but let me tell you this, the years have not diminished anything in the eyes of Adam Ant‘s fans or his abilities to sing and perform like years past. He sounded as good as he did in the 80’s and he’s looking fabulous on this tour too. After all of these years he still manages to wrap everyone around his little finger.
There were fans of all ages at this show and everyone knew his music. He’s an artist that transcends the generations. The women and men to all sides of me were screaming like teenagers and saying how much they loved him while belting out each song that was performed. I can’t say I don’t know how he does it, because I do, he’s Adam Ant. I mean, it’s really that simple. There is no other artist out there like him, he’s one of a kind. So yes, it’s quite a big deal for his fans to see him live. It was clear that both Adam Ant and the fans shared mutual respect at the show. He was so gracious and kept taking the time to thank his audience for coming out to see him and the fans keep cheering him on all night.
I am thrilled I got to be a part of this evening and see him shine on the stage. I highly suggest you go see him if you have a chance. There are just a few more USA dates before this tour is over. Check out the dates below to see if there is a date near you.
