February 20, 2017  It wasn’t too long ago that we sat down with Larry Coryell to talk about his newest album Barefoot Man: Sanpaku, life and career.  This afternoon we heard about Larry‘s unexpected passing in New York on Sunday and are now mourning the loss of a jazz fusion pioneer and just an all around nice guy.

According to an officials, “Coryell passed away in his sleep at his hotel from natural causes.”  Coryell was in New York this past weekend and had performed at the Iridium Jazz Club on Friday and Saturday.  He had a lot going on in his life but as he had previously told us was slowing things down a bit and enjoying life more.  Before his untimely death, Coryell was awaiting the release of his Eleventh House’s new album, Seven Secrets, set for release on June 2 as well as an upcoming U.S. tour.

Larry Coryell (73) leaves behind his wife Tracey, four children and six grandchildren and countless friends.
