March 27, 2017 Last Tuesday night Social Distortion was in town to play The Showbox Market for the first of two shows. The first show was a 21+ show and the second show was all an ages show.
Opening up the evening was Jade Jackson. Having gotten to work with Mike Ness (Guitarist and vocalist) of Social Distortion she was a perfect opener for the tour. The 45 minute set was filled with songs off of her upcoming album “Gilded” which is due out in May from Anti-Records. With her bluesy sound she pulled in many new fans. Jade Jackson is certainly a a name to watch out for. If you get a chance to see her live, I highly suggest it. You will not be disappointed by her performance.
The moment the entire crowd had been waiting for, Social Distortion to hit the stage. As soon as the lights went out the audience went wild. The band started off their set with a fan favorite, “Bye Bye Baby”. The crowd quickly reacted to the song and fans started moshing into one another as they sent the first of many crowd surfers up and over the security barrier. One of the many highlights of the night was when Mike Ness started the intro to the hit song “Ball And Chain”. The crowd sang word for word with him and Mike became hard to hear from how loud the crowd was singing with him. The hour and a half set came to a close with a Johnny Cash cover as the band ripped into “Ring Of Fire”.
Social Distortion is a band you don’t want to miss live. Having been around for as long as they have they certainly know how to put on a good show and how to keep the audience entertained from start to finish. If you are lucky enough to catch one of their remaining tour dates, I suggest getting advanced tickets. Most of their shows sell out beforehand so if you want to go get the tickets as soon as possible. The remaining tour dates run from March 24- April 5.
