Last night, The Security Project performed to a sold out crowd at the Columbia City Theater in Seattle. For those of you not familiar with The Security Project, they are a band that performs music from “Peter Gabriel‘s first three albums, Security (1982) and Plays Live (1983), as well as many other sonic surprises”.
For me, the music is has an experimental progressive rock sound to the arrangements and takes each of the songs into a new direction for the listener. They have a very creative style that is refreshing yet, unexpected. The fans who attended the show watched in almost complete silence as the band performed each song of the evening. I didn’t spot a single cell phone out snapping photos on the lower level as I watched the performance, (I only caught the last half of the show, so I can only speak to that half, but impressive not to see a single phone out). Fans were completely content with simply enjoying this live performance.
At the end of the main set the band took to the front of the stage and waved to the crowd, then exited. After a few minutes of applause, Jerry Marotta returned to the center front of the stage and talked to the audience for a few minutes, bantered with one who shouted out a song request then one by one the other members of the band came back to the stage as Marotta introduced each member. The band then played an encore with a few more songs before closing out the show. The band took a group bow, shook a few hands and said goodnight.
If you’ve never had the chance to see The Security Project before, make a point to watch their schedule. It’s a different live experience than most live shows you will see and a truly enjoyable evening. Here’s a sample of what you can expect from one of their shows.
