Friday evening a long line stretched down the street as fans were waiting to enter the WAMU Theater for the first of two sold out nights of EDM entertainment by the one and only Deadmau5.
The doors opened at 7:30 pm and the first performer came on at 8:30 pm. The opener for the night was Feed Me. The England based DJ specializes in dubstep, electro house, drum and bass. As soon as the lights went out LED screens on a mixing rig turned on and started flashing. With each heart stopping pound of bass the lights flashed brighter and more in sync to the rhythm of each song. The hour long set featured some of his biggest songs such as “Spilt Milk”, “To The Stars” and “I Do Coke”. Feed Me is a must see act. If you get the chance to see him perform I recommend going.
Finally, the moment the crowd had been waiting for, Deadmau5 was ready to take the stage. At exactly 10 o’clock the house lights went out and the audience erupted into cheer. A curtain was in front of the stage as the lights started to flash you could see them through the curtain highlighting the DJ’s rig. The curtain dropped and the audience finally got to see Deadmau5 on top of a 25 foot tall LED lit cube. The audience immediately started to jump up and down to the rhythm of his song “Imaginary Friends”. Some of the other concert goers were dancing while a few even had glowing orbs that were on a string they would move around to the songs. With each song that was played the LED screens changed into different images and designs. The almost two hour set featured many fan favorites such as “Avaritia”, “Acedia”, “Stay”, “Moar Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff”, “Legendary” and “Snowcone”. The night came to a close with “Raise Your Weapon (Noisia Remix)”. Deadmau5 is not just a Dj. He is a very talented showman who knows how to get a crowd going and keep them at that level for an entire night. Deadmau5 is a performer you must see live to truly experience his music. If you see that a tour of his is coming to a city near you make sure to be there. You will not be disappointed.
He is one of those rare acts that you can say with certainty has inspired a vast amount of people to take a chance at music production for themselves. He truly is iconic.
