Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Rock the Evergreen State Fair

Last night Joan Jett & the Blackhearts stopped through Seattle to perform at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe, WA. The badass rocker and Rock N Roll Hall of Famer who’s never cared about her reputation but does care about rock n roll, kicked ass! The crowd was a big mix of the youngest little rockers to some quite a bit older, but all were there to rock with metal horns and fists held high.

The show kicked off in full rock fashion with the hit song “Do You Wanna Touch Me” which had fans up on their feet singing along. Jett played a mix of old hits and songs from her latest album Unvarnished (2013). Before the 6th song of the night “Make it Back”, Jett stopped to talk about the current situation in the Houston and Southeast, TX area with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and the similarities that Hurricane Sandy left behind in her home state of New Jersey. She went on to talk about how these types of horrible events bring out the good that she still believes most people are capable of and how people are helping people. Her feelings were so heart felt that it touched the audience. She went on to dedicate “Make it Back” to those going through the difficult circumstances left by the hurricane.

At one point in the show Kenny Laguna spoke up at the intro of a song and said, “Mary was important and we are gonna miss her so we are gonna do this until at least the end of this year.” The Mary he was referring to was Mary Tyler Moore and the band went on to play the Mary Tyler Moore Theme song. The band rocked out for about an hour and half and ended the show with an encore of “Everyday People”.
