As the evening started off, a couple local bands opened up for the international touring acts. The local bands were Aethereus and Dismembering Mary. Both bands killed it and really helped get the audience ready for the touring acts.
First up for the touring acts was Ghost Bath. This band was a bit of a shock for some of the audience. With a lot of black metal influence the band ripped through their half hour set with ease. Showcasing many different styles of metal, the band got the audience head banging and throwing up the horns. They were a good band to have open up and get the audience excited.
Next up was Fallujah. The San Francisco based death metal band got the audience moving almost immediately. Earlier in the year the band had a line up change as vocalist Alex Hofmann left the band after 10 years. Many of the audience members were interested and yet somewhat nervous to see the new vocalist perform. Any amount of anxiety about new vocalist Monte Barnard was gone quickly as he riled up the crowd and easily performed their classic songs. Fallujah is a must see band whenever they come to your town. The amount of energy they showcase is amazing.
With a very anxious crowd awaiting, Thy Art Is Murder took to the stage. Opening up with their title track off of their new album, the band ripped into “Dear Desolation”. This sent the crowd into an absolute mayhem. The entire venue turned into one gigantic mosh pit from the front to the back. The almost hour long set was filled with many fan favorites such as “The Purist Strain of Hate”, “Violent Reckoning”, “Absolute Genocide” and “Holy War”. The crowd started shouting as loud as they could as the intro for “Reign Of Darkness” began playing over the speaker system. Thy Art Is Murder puts on a one of a kind show. The energy they bring to the stage is matched by the audience. Whenever this band is coming to a city near you make sure to be there. I also suggest buying tickets in advance because many of their shows sell out.
The headlining spot for the night went to Polish death metal heavy weights Decapitated. The band quickly went into “Deathvaluation” and “Kill The Cult” off of their 2017 album Anticult. This got the crowd moving once again and it kept going the rest of the night. The hour long set was filled with songs spanning their entire catalog. The crowd went crazy when the band played “Spheres of Madness“. The set came to a close with their hit song “Homo Sum”. Decapitated is a must see death metal band for any fan of the genre.
