Thomas Rhett and Michael Ray Perform at the Washington State Fair

Thomas Rhett

Last week Thomas Rhett headlined at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup, WA.  On tour with him was Michael Ray.

Thomas Rhett has had a busy year!  Between adopting his first daughter, the birth of his second, managing to write, record and co-produce his new album and go out on tour, he’s been one of the busiest guys in 2017. Rhett released his latest album Life Changes on September 8th.  It’s great follow up to his 2015 Tangled Up release.  See our review here.

Michael Ray is a relative newcomer from a small town called Eustis, FL, a place my own family is from.  So it is great to see local folks from this town making their mark on the country music scene. His first release Tour Bootleg was released in 2014 followed up by his 2015 release Michael Ray leading to his 2017 single release of “Get to You”Ray‘s sound leans more toward traditional country with a more melodic blend.  His vocals are strong, smooth and a little deeper in tone, yet not crossing over into the deep baritone ranges like Josh Turner or Trace Adkins. Michael Ray opened the show with a set that was full of energy and great music that had the fans up on their feet singing along.  Clearly many of the fans at the show knew Michael Ray‘s music.  He’s someone to keep your eyes on.

Thomas Rhett came onto the stage in big stage show style with a huge lit backdrop and spotlights aimed in a downward angle and directly set center stage to criss-crossed over him. Fans were already up on their feet for the show and remained there as he went straight into his set.  He performed many of his hits and many new songs from Life Changes, which brought lots of cheers from the fans.  A few songs into his set he stopped and talked about his newest family addition, his second daughter, mentioning, “Scary how much she looks like me”, in a joking tone.  Clearly a gushing and proud father!  He continued on with his lively show as his fans cheered him on.  Thomas Rhett brings a new breath into the country music genre with his fusion of music and entertaining style.  Clearly an artist loving what he’s doing and fans reciprocating their love of his music back to him.

If you haven’t checked out Thomas Rhett‘s Life Changes yet, do it!  If you get the chance to catch him in a live performance you will enjoy the show.
