Alcyona Album Review
Label: Pride & Joy Music
Genre: Symphonic Landscape Metal
Release Date: February 23, 2018
Alcyona have released their first album ‘Trailblazer’ and in their first attempt have made a lasting mark in Symphonic Metal!
Hailing from Minsk, Belarus, Alycona have been together since 2012 and started out as the creation of Natalia Malei who is the lyricist, main composer and keyboardist of the band. Trained in music and music theory she set out to write something original yet specifically for the metal genre.
‘Trailblazer’ has 10 tracks of fun and enjoyable music. At times through out this album I was reminded of Avatar and their carnival style metal. This album had some of those oddities sprinkled through out, especially in the music of “Memories In the Vessel”. A bit odd, eery and carnival feeling which made for a great song with that something extra added to it.
One thing that truly stands out on this album is the instrumental representation. There are the many great guitar riffs the listener gets to experience. A great mix of tempos that keeps the drummer beating frantically to keep up the ever changing and never ending tempos. The keyboard tracks that are classically inspired but modernly metal with many different interpretations that are interesting and fun to listen to. We can’t leave out the vocals either, Olga Terentyeva has amazing vocals that span numerous octave ranges with ease which wrap this album up into one big experience.
If you are a fan of symphonic metal, this is an album for you to check out and enjoy. I think you will quickly find yourself a fan of Alcyona.
