On Saturday April 21st, Texas Hippie Coalition rolled into Sunshine Studios Live in Colorado Springs, Colorado ready to bring their sound and bring down the house.

Texas Hippie Coalition are the purveyors of their own patented Red Dirt Metal sound; designing their own line in life and in music. For them, there is no other way. THC is committed to crafting a unique, original and thoroughly raucous brand of music that’s born of both life experience and a respect for rock ‘n’ roll’s forefathers. What exactly is Red Dirt Metal? Take outlaw country, toss in a dash of Southern-fried classic rock and mix it with some potent Texas power grooves and you’ve got a combustible sonic cocktail on your hands.

The day started with a bbq on the outdoor patio before the doors opened, all the while sound checks are going on inside. Members from the bands playing this evening, stroll in and out, enjoying the food and beverages and mingling with those who were invited early. Big Daddy Ritch came out and talked with the people there, showing his and the bands appreciation for their support and what it meant to them.

Later that evening when Texas Hippie Coalition took the stage and opened with, “Texas Tags” from their 2008 album, Pride of Texas, Sunshine Studios was in the grip of THC‘s, Red Dirt Metal! BDR‘s deep vocals mixed with “barefoot” Nevada Romo‘s guitar licks, running around the stage throwing his hair and making funny faces, Cord Pool adding his guitar magic while moving with Nevada, and Timmy Braun on the skins, was adding his flavor and jesters to the evening. Everyone there was moving and rocking out. But later in their set when they broke into “Turn it Up” from their 2012 album, Peacemaker, one of their most popular songs, the house was shaking! Their music comes from life and their hearts, you can hear that in the lyrics. Having seen THC a couple of times before, one thing for sure, the energy level is off the charts and you know that at the end of the night when your dragging yourself home. This is a show you will want to see and like so many bands that have played Sunshine Studios Live before, they will be back.

About Sunshine Studios:
I first walked into Sunshine Studios almost four years ago and at the time, I didn’t know my life was about to take an amazing change. Here I met owners Tony Korte and his daughter, Christina Corbitt. That very first day, Tony and I hit it off and he took me on a tour of the building the venue was in. Though they had been open for a few short years, it was kinda tough to find, was still a little rough around the edges but oh, what an atmosphere! They also have an excellent recording studio there as well. The capacity is about 400 inside and 1500+ for the covered outdoor stage. Nice size stage, good lighting and sound and Tony had plans. I asked him about shooting a band that was playing the following night, Avatar, he said, “bring your camera tomorrow and I’ll talk with the guys. My concert photography started there and every show I shoot today leads back to that day. In 2017, Sunshine Studios was voted the best venue in Colorado Springs. Since that time, the up grades are to many to mention here, but believe me, when acts like Avatar, Saliva, Drowning Pool, Butcher Babies, Saving Able, Wednesday 13, Dope, Stitched Up Heart, Powerman 5000, and so many great bands that have played here and return two, three or more times, I think that speaks volumes for this wonderful venue.
