Kamelot Brings Shadows Over North America Tour to Denver – I arrived to the Ogden Theater early on May 1st and was allowed in early so I enjoyed standing off to the side watching the meet and greet going on with Kamelot and Delain. Joining Kamelot on their tour was guest vocalist Lauren Hart of the band Once Human, who I saw last year and photographed their excellent show. I was excited to hear her vocals along with Tommy Karevik’s.

Starting the night off was Battle Beast from Finland. I had the pleasure of seeing their show last year for the first time and was excited to see them again. As the band took the stage and started in on their first song, “Straight to the Heart”, from their 2017 album release, ‘Bringer of Pain’, the crowd was shouting Battle Beast over and over. Noora Louhimo took the stage breaking into her strong vocals setting in motion what the night was going to be like. As I had witnessed last year, the bands on-stage performance is energized by their music, their interactions with each other and the fans. A live show not to miss.

Up next was a band I’m very passionate about, Delain! I fell in love with this band in 2012 when I watched the video, “We are The Others” from their album of the same title. As the band took the stage, my own excitement was already very high having seen them 4 times prior to this show. They started their set with “Hands of Gold” from their 2016 release ‘Moonbathers’. As I have seen before, their interaction with each other and their crowd makes for a fun night. As I heard the first notes of their second song “Suckerpunch” also from “Moonbathers”, it was hard for me not to put my camera down and just watch Charlotte Wessels and listen to her sing one of my very favorite songs. Her stage presence along with the interactions she and her band mates have with each other, are a real pleasure not only watch but to photograph as well.

Watching Charlotte Wessels on her knees singing with all her passion to guitarist Merel Bechtold as Bechtold returned her passion in her guitar riffs was amazing to watch. With guitarist Timo Somers pointing into the crowd and the other members making jesters in one way or another, Delain makes for an awesome night of music. As they finished their set with, “We are the Others” again, I was blown away by their performance, wondering how long it would be until I see them again. Delain is a live show I believe should be on your bucket list to see!

Finishing the evening was Kamelot. Having seen them twice before, I was pretty sure of what they would bring to the stage and I and their fans were not disappointed! “Knight’s March” started and one by one, each member made their way onto the stage and when they broke into “Phantom Divine” from their recently released album, “The Shadow Theory”. Tommy Karevik took the microphone and a night of Kamelot‘s music and awesome light show unfolded to the screams of their fans. Joining Karevik on stage was guest vocalist, Lauren Hart of the band, Once Human, adding her strong voice to the new song complementing Karevik’s powerful voice. From that point everyone knew we all were in for an awesome night.

Flowing back in forth in time from song to song, with the spot lights moving and changing colors, made for a great atmosphere. Late into their set, they stepped back to their 2012 album ‘Silverthorn’ with the song, “Sacrimony”, bringing Lauren Hart back to the stage joined by Charlotte Wessels of Delain. This was a treat for everyone there, performing together with Tommy Karevik made for a powerful combination that was very enjoyable to listen too. Kamelot topped off this amazing night with, “Liar Liar” from their 2015 album, ‘Haven’. This was a night of high energy music performed by all three bands, shows like these are always a treat to see. Catch this tour, you won’t be disappointed.
