On June 1, New Kids On The Block came through on their ‘Mixtape Tour’. The tour also showcased many other classic late 80’s and early 90’s acts. The acts included Salt-N-Pepa, Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, and Naughty By Nature. The massive bill pulled in quite a crowd! The venue had filled in before the show was set to begin. Doors for the show were at 6:30 PM, with the show starting at 8:00.
The show started off with a DJ set. The DJ played a great mix of songs from throughout the late 70’s to now. The crowd loved it and began to sing along with the songs. Many of the songs brought back fond memories for many of the fans in attendance. At the end of the set, the DJ shouted out for the crowd to cheer for the New Kids On The Block. The audience erupted in cheer and became anxious in anticipation for the band to come out.
In between the set change, a large boombox was displayed on the LED screen the said ‘Mixtape Tour’ on it. When the lights went out, everyone in attendance stood up cheered as an introduction message came across the screen. When the message was finished, a giant curtain that was covering part of the stage dropped and the New Kids On The Block lowered onto the stage on a platform. Their set started off with the song ‘The Way‘. During the song the band made sure to use every inch of the stage to interact with the fans.
As soon as that song was finished, they quickly went into performing ‘My Favorite Girl‘. At the end of the song, giant confetti cannons went off and showered the audience. The audience loved every bit of it! Many audience members even picked up pieces of the confetti to keep as a memory of the show. New Kids On The Block went on to perform a few more songs before the next act came out.
Throughout the night, each act would walk through the audience and go from the main stage, to a secondary stage in the middle of the venue. During those performances, the stage lifted up so that everyone throughout the venue could see the performers. Each performance felt like the artists were performing strictly for you. All of the acts on the bill were able to work their magic and captivate the audience.
As the night came to an end, New Kids On The Block came back out to perform their hits ‘Step By Step‘ and ‘Hangin’ Tough‘. When the audience heard the final two songs, the reactions from the crowd was deafening. At the end of ‘Hangin’ Tough‘ Donnie Wahlberg welcomed all of the other acts on to the stage as the performers bid the Tacoma crowd farewell.
New Kids On The Block put on an incredible show! The amount of energy and showmanship they have is top notch. If you haven’t had the chance to see them live, I highly suggest doing so. These guys put on a great show for any fan of music. The ‘Mixtape Tour’ is continuing until July 14. You can buy your tickets on their website or on you local venue site as well.
