On first listen, I was pleasantly surprised by Deaf Rat. I noticed that the opening on the album “Ban The Light,” quickly reminded me of another Swedish band I enjoy, Corroded. I has that heavy feel to the music, but then as the vocals begin, it’s like this mix of Crashdiet and Crazy Lixx vocals have landed on this album.
I quite enjoyed this album, it’s packed full of great hooks and riffs, upbeat tempos and makes for an all around fun album for music listeners.
The band is listed as a trio, yet in their videos and live gig photos show as a 5 piece, that is a little odd to me. I want to know who the other players are and why they aren’t even mentioned on the band page since they are also in the in the videos for this album. Even if just live only members, would just like the clarity.
My only issue with this album, that reflects in the rating as well, is that this album sounds like it could be a Crashdiet or Crazy Lixx album, their sound is that similar. So there’s already a couple of really solid bands in Sweden with this exact same sound, that to me just feels weird and a bit unoriginal. And I do get it, it is hard for bands to stand out and feel original with the mass number of bands making music, but seriously…. pop in either of the new albums from these two bands and then this album and you will see what I mean. I love this genre, it’s fun either way. So if you don’t care they sound this similar or just love the genre like I do, go grab the album because you will definitely enjoy it!
