Kælan Mikla was in Seattle this month as part of the Iceland Naturally sponsored, Taste of Iceland event. The group performed at the Reykjavík Calling musical showcase held at KEXP.
I’d never run across this group before this show yet was instantly impressed by their music and style. Their sound to me was like a collision of many of the 80’s New Wave artists, but with a darker and more modern twist. The vocals held a distinct style, almost like that of Debra Harry and Dale Bozzio.
Being just a trio consisting of vocalist, bass player and synth master, this group had the crowds complete attention and had the fans lining up to get their hands on whatever merchandise they could after their show.
If you are ever presented with the opportunity to take in a show with this band, you don’t want to pass on it!
