Ross The Boss is back their latest release ‘Born Of Fire’. I was not sure what to expect with the new album after the 2018 release ‘By Sworn Blood’. What direction would ‘Born of Fire’ take? Would it be a continuation from the last or dig deeper back to 2010’s ‘Hailstorm’ release for influence?

Having finally had a full listen to the new album I can say the writing has headed in a heavier direction and has more of a thrash tone throughout the album. For me this album felt a bit flat and disorganized, almost as if there was a struggle to define cohesiveness in the writing. Even with that said I found a few real rippers on this album that will induce some serious head banging.

What will sound familar to listeners who are familiar with the band are the gritty, raging, high note hitting vocals paired with intense music. There is a feel from time to time of their 2018 release but not consistently.

While listening through the album I found myself losing interest about halfway through. The tracks had a repetitive feel almost as if the songs just run into each other.

Final thoughts: It’s a good album. Many listeners will enjoy it. For me personally, I felt like something was missing and I couldn’t figure out what it was. The album didn’t really keep my attention.

Best Tracks: Born of Fire, Denied By The Cross, I Am The Sword, Shotgun Evolution
